EasyDataRescue was born out of a simple observation: data recovery software is confusing, expensive, and full of misinformation.
In 2023, while trying to recover wedding photos from a corrupted SD card, our founder spent $300 on tools that didn't work. Most "review" sites on the web were just paid advertisements disguised as testing.
We decided to change that. At EasyDataRescue, we:
- Buy every tool ourselves — we don't accept free "review licenses".
- Destroy hardware for testing — we intentionally format, corrupt, and damage drives to see how tools perform.
- Give honest verdicts — if a free tool like Recuva is enough for your job, we'll tell you.
Our Testing Lab
Based in Austin, Texas, our small team of data specialists uses hardware forensic write-blockers and cleanrooms to benchmark every software update. We update our rankings monthly to reflect the latest software versions and OS updates (Windows 11 and macOS Sequoia included).
